NUMBERS

NUMBERS

Let me first ask you a question.....
Six guinea pigs injected with 0.5mg of a medication took an average 15.4 secs to fall asleep with an unbiased standard deviation 2.2 secs, while six other guinea pigs injected with 1.5mg of the medication took on an average 11.2 secs to fall asleep with an unbiased standard deviation 2.6 secs. Use 5% level of significance to test the null hypothesis that the difference in dosage has no effect.

This aint any timbuktu lingua..(How I wish it was....) but a sum which is included in the Applied maths subject of semester 5 in our university...
Well....The subject is called Applied mathematics....hmmm..... does that mean maths that can be applied?? ( To find out wether those unfortunate six guinea pigs can fall asleep with a slight change in medication??? lol.... duh!! I think i have better things to do in life)

Basically i am trying to vent out all my anger on today's maths paper which was horribly set... could attempt only about 50% of the paper... totally sucked... i guess the paper setter tried to vent out all his anger on the paper... Personally I think the paper setters and the checkers must be made to go on a lovely beautiful vacation before they do their job...

But other than finding out the effects of a medication on guinea pigs... mathematics can be applied to much much much more interesting fields in our life... I saw a brand new series in AXN called 'NUMBERS'( based on a true story ) where theres this guy who can solve a case (even a case like murder mystery) just by making use of maths.. wow....incredible.. mind blowing... how can one possibly do that!!!!.. Never knew Applied maths had such interesting applications...

I bet we students will love to solve problems involving murbers and thefts rather than to find out what happens to guinea pigs if they were given a little less medication.....

Lately I've been watching this series without missing any episode.
